Duane W. Acklie Hall of Science

The Duane W. Acklie Hall of Science at Nebraska Wesleyan University is a modern, three-story academic building designed by Clark & Enersen to house the university’s chemistry, biology, and psychology departments. As NWU’s first new academic building in 36 years, it blends historic campus elements with cutting-edge design. Key features include state-of-the-art air handling systems, open and transparent lab spaces to promote “science on display,” and collaborative learning areas enhanced by advanced technology.
The building encourages interaction and observation, with glass walls that allow views into laboratories and learning spaces. It integrates teaching and research labs, classrooms, faculty offices, and student collaboration areas in a layout that supports both academic rigor and community engagement.
While the design prioritizes visibility, technology, and collaboration, ergonomic seating plays a crucial role in supporting the overall effectiveness and health of lab users. Prolonged lab work often involves repetitive movements, long hours at lab benches or computers, and high levels of concentration. Without properly designed seating that supports good posture and movement, students and faculty are at risk of discomfort, and fatigue.
In a facility like Acklie Hall—where innovation, learning, and research converge—ergonomic seating enhances not just comfort, but also productivity and safety.
Cramer installed 205 Fusion Fit chairs and 52 Fusion Round Stools in the new facility.
