KBI Forensic Science Center, Washburn University

Modular lab space launches workforce development in the region

Installation Details

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation’s Forensic Science Center on the Washburn University campus reflects a shared vision to deliver exceptional facilities for criminal investigation while advancing workforce development in the region. The center features modular laboratory space for investigative units including analytical chemistry, biology (DNA), and digital forensics, alongside chemistry and biology teaching labs and student/faculty research laboratories that support the University’s forensic science programs. Public amenities such as an auditorium and investigative unit artifact displays enhance community engagement, while the three-story structure, clad in Kansas Limestone, stands as a prominent government building in the State’s Capital.

Within these highly technical environments, laboratory seating plays a critical role in supporting performance, safety, and user well-being. Ergonomic, adjustable seating is essential for accommodating extended periods of detailed analytical work, promoting proper posture, and adapting to varied bench heights and equipment configurations. Durable, easy-to-clean materials help meet strict hygiene and contamination-control standards, while flexible seating solutions in teaching labs ensure comfort and accessibility for diverse users. By thoughtfully integrating high-quality lab seating throughout both professional and academic spaces, the facility reinforces its commitment to precision, efficiency, and long-term functionality.

Cramer placed 230 Fusion chairs in various labs in the KBI Forensic Science Center. Fusion chairs are remarkably durable, reliable and comfortable – making them a favorite for all-day sitters. The proprietary r+ covering is resistant to tears and punctures and the 3.5″ molded foam cushion provides consistent support throughout the day.
